The Menil Collection: temple of Modern Art

Well known from art lovers, The Menil Collection shelters amidst a marvel of architecture an ensemble of major works of art, as well as temporary exhibitions from all over the world.

Started in June 1987 under John and Dominique de Menil's impetus, The Menil Collection gathers in one place part of the couple's private collection (sculptures, paintings and photographs). And what a place!

The museum itself is an architectural masterpiece designed by Renzo Piano. The roofs and ceilings are conceived with curved profile tiles that, audacious design notwithstanding, allow for natural light regulation at any time of day. As a demanding collector, Dominique de Menil wanted that visits to the Museum be different every time as per light variations.
You can admire 20th century works by Magritte, Ernst, Klee, Matisse, Picasso and Cézanne, but also Jackson Pollock and Andy Warhol.
The Menil Collection is not just devoted to Modern Art as it also shelters items from Classical Antiquity, Byzantine and Medieval periods, as well as Arts of Africa.
