The Hudson Hotel by Philippe Starck, trendy yet affordable

If you like the unexpected and slightly offbeat, then you will like the Hudson Hotel. Philippe Starck's decor is a sight to behold.

Located on the west side of Manhattan, near Lincoln Center and Columbus Circle, on 58th Street, the Hudson is part of the new generation of hotels that combine affordable rates, high standards, and sought-after decor: two monumental staircases lead you from street level up to a stunning loft-style lobby with red bricks, an ivy-covered ceiling, and a giant chandelier. The bar and the library with pool table are also remarkably decorated: the bar is striped with green neon, the walls are covered with wood panelling, the floors are backlit, there are ceiling frescoes, and a fireplace surrounded by plush club chairs and English Chesterfields.

Certainly, the 900 rooms are small or even very small (nine square metres at the lowest price), but they have been perfectly arranged by the talented Philippe Starck and remind one of ship cabins. There are large square beds (no rooms have two beds), hardwood floors, white walls, and bathrooms that are small but have everything you need. On the top floor is a 139-square-metre penthouse with a sublime terrace.
