Rodeo, a national sport

Rodeo, a national sport

A lively atmosphere reigns at rodeos, an integral part of the Wild West experience and an American pastime !

With a bandana around his neck, jeans covered with “chaps” that protect the legs in style, cowboy boots with spurs and the requisite Stetson hat, the cowboy enters the arena to the crowd's cheers. Here, rodeo is a true passion, half sporting event and half patriotic celebration. Rodeos—from the Spanish word rodear for “to go around”—are composed of rough-stock events like bareback bronc riding, timed competitions and much more. A reminder of the conquest of the West and its iconic cowboys, rodeos often feature bull riding too—one of the most popular events, but also the most dangerous.
The official rodeo season in the country begins in the spring and ends in December at the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas. The extravagant Forth Worth Stock Show, as well as the events in San Antonio and Houston are all worth a trip. A once-in-a-lifetime experience !
