Petra, one of the seven new wonders of the world

A legendary masterpiece, Petra is an absolutely mesmerising experience that will remain forever etched in your memory

Immortalised by the famous watercolours of David Roberts, Petra is the beautiful Nabatean city abandoned in the 8th century, forgotten for centuries, and rediscovered in the early 19th. To reach it, you have to take a winding path through two huge rock walls, the famous Siq. The roughly 15-minute walk can also be done on horseback or by donkey. The journey in the semi-darkness is worth its weight in gold: you come out onto the 'Treasury' a glowing mausoleum carved into the rock, which, according to legend, hide the riches of a pharaoh.
Other vestiges abound on this site of more than 100 sq km: the royal tombs, the 'monument to the serpent,' the high place of sacrifice (Al-Madbah), and the monastery. Take the time to wander among the ruins, to sip tea with the Bedouins... It will be a matchless moment, bathed in the warm sunlight...
