Malmaison, a former sailor haunt

Located 15 minutes from Edinburgh, near the medieval port of Leith, this beautiful 19th-century building houses a boutique hotel with a maritime atmosphere.

In the small town of Leith, head to the docks and the imposing Malmaison, with its central tower and chiming clock. The typically Scottish building houses 100 rooms and suites on four floors. The spacious rooms feature a classic, chic and cosy decor with tartan prints and elegant stripes. The bathrooms are chequered in black and white, like the lobby. The atmosphere is posh bourgeois, with family portraits on the walls. The brass rail of the grand central staircase shines brightly, and the front door is original.
To eat, go to the European-style brasserie in Victorian London decor, with leather sofas and armchairs. At teatime, if weather permits, enjoy a cup on the terrace, or pop over to the Royal Yacht Britannia. Moored in the port of Leith, Queen Elizabeth's old ship is open to the public. A visit not to be missed...
