Philippe Starck, the renowned French designer behind the décor at La Co(o)rniche, sums the place up in a single sentence: “This is not just the most beautiful place in the bay, it is the most beautiful place in the world”. The amazement you experience upon entering the hotel is nothing to that you will feel when you finally look out on its incredible surroundings. Just a few metres from the Dune du Pilat, La Co(o)rniche enjoys exceptional views of this surreal towering mountain of sand, which has been named a “Grand Site de France”.
The hotel, restaurant, terrace, and bar comprise an ensemble that has become an institution since opening in 2010. It is a must, an admirable edifice that celebrates the wonderful authenticity of its preserved Basque architecture. The main house offers rooms and suites complete with balconies and terraces that give onto the Arcachon Bay. The establishment also provides more intimate cabins, inspired by oyster-farming villages, each of which enjoys a fabulous view down to the Banc d'Arguin national nature reserve. It is hard not to fall into hyperbole at the thought of this unparalleled Eden.
