Jogging on Boston Common

Follow in the footsteps of Boston Marathoners in the bucolic and relaxing Boston Common.

Boston has its Celtics, Bruins, and Red Sox but at its heart it is a running town, most notably along the banks of the Charles River. Yet lace up and head instead to Boston Common, facing Beacon Hill, to the oldest park in the capital of Massachusetts. Dear to the heart of Bostonians, its 20 hectares contain wooded areas, flower gardens, vast lawns, and Frog Pond, a popular spot for watching wading birds. Along its pleasant paths, you'll be joined by many joggers training for the renowned Boston Marathon, the oldest in the world. If you're not too winded, continue as far as the adjacent Public Garden, where you can rent swan-shaped paddleboats on a lovely pond bordered by weeping willows.
