The ICON Hotel building stands tall in the northern part of Downtown Houston. Built in 1911, it had a prior life as the Union National Bank, one of the very first steel and concrete skyscrapers of the entire country. Inside, some period elements pop up and take you back to the early days of the previous century. The former safe has been kept in, dial phones are used as decoration tools and velvet chairs and huge marble columns are everywhere to be found.
The 135 rooms of the hotel offer a rather classical decoration and a magnificent view onto Houston. At the hotel bar, L&L, the cocktail selection ranges from classics to contemporary creations, beers are brewed in the Houston area and the wine list offers a sophisticated selection of Californian and Argentinean productions. As for the restaurant, it is open for lunch dinner hours and offers Texan dishes of course!
