Playing with perspective is one of the keys to a successful shot. Take a photograph of your subject from the ground or from a vantage point higher up. Try and frame your shot with another feature, such as through a window, door or branches. You could also try taking low-angle shots, lying on your back, to make a rock look like a natural skyscraper, for example. By demonstrating your artistic talents, you will create stunning photos as well as unforgettable memories. Take a look at our selection of destinations favoured by amateur and professional photographers alike.

Never be without your camera on the Amazon River

You have always had a bit of the adventurer in you and now you are off to the incredible Amazon rainforest for a journey along one of the longest rivers in the world. From São Paulo, set off to Manaus, the legendary city in the heart of the jungle, at the crossroads of the Amazon and the Rio Negro. After a few hours by boat, you spend the night in a traditional house on stilts. You will then set off in a dug-out canoe to explore the banks of the river with your guide. You will be glad you remembered to take your camera to capture on film the many fabulous highlights on this amazing excursion: a fly-past by toucans, a balletic performance by caimans and not forgetting an astonishing aquatic display by pink dolphins. As the day draws to an end, your long excursion takes you to meet some indigenous tribes in the comunidades ribeirinhas or riverside communities, as they are known. You turn your attention away from the wild animals for a while as you capture the almost surreal sunset reflecting on the waters of the river. The scene will take your breath away.

Playing with lines on the streets of San Francisco

Like lots of American cities, San Francisco is an amazing playground for happy snappers. The first thing you will want to do when you drop off your suitcases is capture the iconic Golden Gate Bridge. Armed with your SLR, get yourself over to Baker Beach. From this beach at low tide, the bridge seems even more stunning. How beautiful!

If you like playing with lines, make Powell Street at the intersection with California Street your next destination. From the top of this hill, you get an uninterrupted view all the way down the street with Oakley Bay Bridge as the backdrop and high buildings on either side. An incredible perspective for an surprising photo… with a tram thrown in for good measure.

The Transamerica Pyramid is another of the city's symbols. To capture this concrete colossus from its best angle, go down to The Embarcadero and position yourself at the end of Pier 7. Line up the street lamps running down the sides to frame the building. You will get a stunning photo of the tower with impressive stylistic effects.

Flying over Thai beaches for the ultimate shots

For breathtaking photos, have you thought about buying yourself a drone? Once you have got to grips with all the rules for using your flying machine, which is an absolute must, take it with you to Phuket to the south of Bangkok. First, go through all the procedures and register your device with the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) and the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), then you are poised to take some awe-inspiring images of the region's most stunning beaches.

A bit of advice: head to Freedom Beach at the end of the day. This achingly beautiful corner of paradise on the west coast of Phuket offers some spectacular shots, especially as the sun starts to dip below the horizon. Launch your drone and take photographs of the shimmering play of light as it gently ripples on the calm waters of the Andaman Sea. Seize the moment and find the perfect angle from the sky for an out-of-the-ordinary picture of the golden hour. Your family and friends will gasp in amazement when they see your snaps.
