Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum is one of the largest free museums in the United Kingdom. It gathers 22 galleries where many artistic and historic items are on display.

Open to the public since 1901, this massive red sandstone building of Spanish Baroque style gathers a collection of 8,000 items, each one more incredible than the last. Varied items, ceramics, armours, sculptures, as well as paintings divided by themes over three floors. Such variety is sure to please children and adults alike, as usually is the case in the ancient costumes, armours and weapons rooms. Archaeological treasures figure prominently, especially those of Antique Greece and Egypt, and you will be able to gaze at a truly beautiful Egyptian sarcophagus.

Further down the museum, enjoy a natural history lesson with a collection of insects and stuffed mammals. The last floor contains works by European artists, most notably French Impressionists, and Scottish Colourists. Do not miss such masterpieces as Dali's Christ of St John of the Cross or Botticelli's Annunciation. Temporary exhibitions take place on the ground floor, and they are worth your time too.
