Perched high up on the Rua Mouzinho da Silveira, this is an address that connoisseurs share, a place where you will find many regulars and well-informed visitors for lunch. Chef José Avillez now runs this restaurant, after extensive experiences at Le Bristol Paris and the three-Michelin-star El Bulli in Catalonia before it closed down in 2011.
After his many apprenticeships, José Avillez settled in Lisbon where he served Portuguese cuisine nicely imprinted with his travels. Today he shares his experience at Cantinho do Avillez in Porto. On the menu: scallops in a creamy avocado sauce with a Pão alentejano sourdough crumb, the famous francesinha - a typical dish made with linguiça (fresh sausage, ham and beef) - or scallops with portobello mushroom risotto. For something sweet, try the local speciality of 'toucinho do céu' (‘bacon from heaven'), a type of custard tart served with raspberry sorbet.
