This hotel has reigned over the city since 1875, despite some interruptions due to conflicts. On Nevsky Prospect, its majestic pink facade is impressive, hearkening back to the days of the tsars, when the aristocracy held sumptuous balls. This was, after all, Tchaikovsky's favourite place to stay. From the lobby, this five-star hotel, the first in the country, is filled with columns, statues, and marble in short, all the splendour of eternal Russia.
The rooms 276 in total spread over five floors are very traditional, with floral curtains and mahogany furniture. The suites are of exquisite taste, with beautiful antique furniture. Breakfast is provided in the Europe, the sumptuous Art Nouveau dining restaurant, accompanied by a pianist. At dinner, the chef's specialities have made this one of the best restaurants in town – and the oldest in all Russia as well. On Friday nights, gala ceremonies take place, interspersed with ballet dancing and opera performances.
